I have two mini module plus vertex 5 boards and am running through the example design tests provided here: https://www.em.avnet.com/en-us/design/drc/pages/su
Since my module has an XC5VFX70T FPGA on it, I downloaded the ISE Design Suite 12.2 files for this part, however I am using EDK 13.3 so I had to update the project when I opened it. The system took care of updating everything automatically except for the processor system reset module and the usb2 device so I had to do these manually. No big deal ![]()
I followed the instructions in the Avnet_MMP_Embedded_Design.pdf file and can successfully run the memory test, usb test, and flash mem/boot loader tests. The only test that consistently fails is the ethernet. I need to run the Temac in Gigabit Ethernet mode. I set my PC's IP address to 192.168.1.1 with a gateway of 255.255.255.0 and when I connect an ethernet cable from the mini mod board to my PC and program the FPGA I do see the link lights flash and the 1000MB LED is lit as well as the Duplex LED.
When I run the test I see the prompt which says the current IP address of the mini module is 192.168.1.44. As per the instructions in the user guide I change this to 192.168.1.51 and hit enter. All I get after that is a constant scrolling of the message "RX: frame was dropped".
I did a search on the forums for this issue and I found a link in which someone had a similar issue in an earlier version of EDK, but ended up discovering they had a bad PHY on the mini module board and had to have it replaced. Also, they were using a 30T and not 70T FPGA so they had a few more options when downloading the example design files.
I'm reluctant to think my issue is a bad PHY since I am seeing this happen on two different mini module boards. I have tried resetting the board as suggested, but it does not help. Are there, perhaps, more recent example designs than the version 12.2 files for the 70T part? Or is this not my issue?
Thank you for any help you can provide,
Adam

Not sure why the 13.2 design for the V5FX70T is not posted on our web site, but please give the attached file a try.

thank you for the file upload.
Unfortunately that did not solve the issue. I tried compiling the design using both EDK 13.2 and 13.3. Both of them still return the same results on both boards ![]()
Any other ideas?

Does the module work if you force the PC to 100Mb full duplex?

In case you saw my last post, I am editing it now because I missed the fact you said force the PC (not the mini module) into 100Mbps full duplex mode. I just used the control panel in Windows to change to 100Mbps and I get the same result. I also tried 10 Mbps and nothing changed.

No, you don't have to rebuild the EDK design, the TEMAC runs in 10/100/1000 mode based on the PC setting. So, give it a try.

doh! I tried to edit my last post before you read it. (thanks for being so quick to respond though!
)
Anyways, 10 and 100 are also not working. And the LEDs on the mini mod show that the board is detecting the speed changes from the PC side

Would it be possible to try a different PC?

Let's try:
1) Different PC
2) Different Ethernet cable
3) The cable doesn't have to be a cross-over cable

yes, I will try both 10 and 100 on my laptop now and let you know. Also, I just noticed when I force the PC network card speed to 10 Full or 100 Full, the duplex LED doesn't light up. The Duplex LED only lights up when the PC is in Gigabit ethernet mode.
I'll repost the results of using my laptop in just a few minutes.
