I would like to receive some details, if possible, about the sentence "Though the board is not 100% compliant to the PCI specification it is compatible and will function in most systems." readable in the Xilinx Spartan3 Evaluation Kit User Guide. Since I tried the board on various PC motherboards and noticed different behaviours I would like to know if there is something I should consider to predict if it will work or not on a particular hardware.

Mechanically, the tantalum caps on the back side of the board are taller than the PCI spec allows. Also, the PCI spec states that there should be no components between the edge connector and the PCI controller. We actually have voltage regulators between the edge connector and the PCI controller. This is why we state that the board is not 100% PCI compliant. We currently do not have a guide to predict behavior on different PC motherboards.
