The xps_spi core v2.02.a is broken in 12.3 and 12.4.  The effect is that the hardware platform will be built incorrectly during BSB and your code will not work.  To use the latest SPI core in 12.3 or 12.4, you need to apply the updated core into your Xilinx EDK installation directory and re-run BSB.
